I just finished devouring The Agony and the Ecstasy by Irving Stone, a historical fiction about Michelangelo.  I’m a huge reader of European historical fiction, especially the 16 and 17th centuries and this just added to my appetite for more knowledge.  The saga not only deals with Michelangelo’s torments but shares insights into the creative guilds so important to the fabric of life.  Did you know that Michelangelo engineered and built roads into nearly impassable mountains do gain access to precious white marble, and that the Wool Guild of Rome ran the project?
