I had the pleasure of taking a long weekend at the highly regarded Miraval Resort and Spa in Tucson, Arizona this weekend.  It was wonderful on so many levels: beautiful setting in the high Sonoran desert, charming horses, world-class staff, physical challenges, amazing food, interesting people, and bit of pampering and indulgence with dear friends.  Whew!

I was fortunate to be able to tour of one of the permanent residences at the resort and have to share this with you.

Each of the residences were designed by the architecture firm Mithun, a world leader in sustainable design, in collaboration with Clodagh, an international interior design firm.  The style is contemporary, luxurious, comfortable and rustic all at once. How can this be anything but perfect with walls adorned by original Louisa McElwin oils?

The stunning vistas rush through open walls in nearly every room. My shoes clicked on the same stone flooring both inside and out.

Here the same stone floor meanders throughout the master shower.  You can’t see it well in this picture, but there is a linear shower drain running the full length of the bench.

The rammed earth walls are just visible on the right in this photo.  They provide both strength and beauty and are perfectly at home in this desert setting known for its adobe structures and decorative styling.

This is a better view of the unadorned rammed earth walls.

Needless to say, I was thrilled and inspired by my stay at Miraval and highly recommend it to all of you.  Take in the beauty, the food, the horses, the desert air, the compelling guests.  I’ll be back again.

A special thanks to Christina Tierney of Sotheby’s for her gracious tour and generous offer of these photographs to share with my readers. I hope you all have enjoyed this peek.
